The Green Country Side in Spain in Spring:
In summer, much of the Spanish country side is arrid and hostile, yet in springtime we can find lovely green hills and fields covered in flowers. This is especially the case in those areas that receive most rain between the Autumn and Spring, and which are therefore especially appealing for outdoor activity in Spain, such as hiking, biking, horseback riding, etc. (more on these subjects in another chapter).

To most it will be no surprize that the north coast and the Pyrenees are some of Spain’s most humid areas. Yet there are other lesser-known regions that receive a good amount of rain as well and therefore have a very lush vegetation, such as the southern slopes of the Sierra de Gredos (west of Madrid), the Sierra de Grazalema (near Ronda), and the Sierra de Tramuntana on Majorca.
As the north and the Pyrenees have a relatively fresh and humid climate in summer as well, and outdoor activity is possible here during the summer months, here we will focus on those regions that are especially attractive for these activities in Spring, before the intense heat and drought of summer dry up the green hills and flowers.
