The Casa do Retiro is on 25 acres of cornfields inside a traditional granite stone wall which accords absolute privacy.

Built of stone in the style of the manorial houses of this part of Portugal, the house is accessed via a portico with coat of arms that opens onto a garden space and a stairway up to the main entrance. On the first floor there is a library, dining room and two living rooms; one facing south onto the cornfields and the other north which remains cool in the heat of the summer. On this floor there is also the spacious master bedroom with bathroom and bath. Next to the living rooms there is a small single room and a restroom.

The stairs lead down to the ground floor with a second dining room and to the right a simple kitchen equipped with all the essentials. To the left is a corridor that connects three double bedrooms and a bathroom with shower. On the lower floor there are two double bedrooms, a bathroom with shower and a room that leads onto the garden.

The house has a large garden and a swimming pool surrounded by exuberant countryside and an impressive landscape of mountains in the distance. Between the entrance and the swimming pool is a unique threshing square with two ancient granaries that make it one of the most important historical agricultural sites of its kind in the peninsular.

A clear stream, suitable for a dip or for trout fishing, crosses the property. One kilometre from the house there is a bicycle route that runs along the Lima river and it is 15 km to the Sierra de Arga mountain range where there are numerous walking routes, small villages to visit and the Pincho waterfall. 20 kms in the opposite direction will bring you to the beaches of Afife, Areosa and Moledo.

La casa do Retiro se encuentra en una propiedad agrícola de 10ha rodeada de campos de maíz y cercada por una valla de antiguas piedras de granito que la dota de una gran privacidad.

Construida en piedra y siguiendo la traza de las casas señoriales de esta zona de Portugal a la casa se accede por un portón con escudo que abre a un patio ajardinado del que sube una escalera hasta la entrada principal. En esa planta noble se encuentra la biblioteca; el comedor; y dos salones, uno orientado a sur y con vistas al campo, y otro orientado a norte lo que lo hace muy fresco en verano. En esta planta también se encuentra la habitación principal, muy espaciosa, un baño completo con bañera, y una pequeña habitación con cama individual así como un aseo.

Unas escaleras nos conducen a una planta más abajo donde hay un comedor de diario- A la derecha, la cocina, sencilla pero con todo lo necesario, y a la izquierda un pasillo que da a tres habitaciones dobles con un baño al fondo con ducha. En otra planta se encuentran dos habitaciones dobles más, un baño con ducha, y una sala de paso al jardín.

La casa tiene un precioso jardín y piscina rodeada por el campo y con el impresionante paisaje de montañas al fondo. Entre la entrada y la piscina se abre una antigua era de trilla bordeadad por un par de horreos con el suelo de granito y con unas dimensiones que hacen de ella una de las más importantes de la Península.

Un arroyo de agua clara cruza la propiedad invitando al baño y a la pesca de truchas. A 1 km se encuentra el sendero de ciclismo que discurre junto al río Lima; y a 15 km las montañas de la Sierra de Arga con numerosos senderos, pequeños pueblos y las cascadas de Pincho. Y hacia la costa, a 20 km, las playas de Afife, Areosa, y Moledo.
